In October, chief doctor Peep Talving, Professor of Surgical Diseases at the Institute of Clinical Medicine at the University of Tartu and member of the Management Board of North Estonia Medical Centre, trained surgeons at Nanshan Hospital of Shenzhen University in the People’s Republic of China. He introduced the local doctors to ASSET’s high quality courses on the surgical concept of trauma.
The Estonian head of the ASSET course Peep Talving helped establish systematic ASSET training in China. Nanshan Hospital of Shenzhen University held three courses attended by surgeons from both Beijing and the Shenzhen area. As a result, a local team was trained to continue offering ASSET courses in China.
“It could be said that we made history. It’s really something to be from tiny Estonia, that has 1.3 million, and help establish ASSET training in China, that has 1.3 billion citizens,” Talving claimed.
Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposure in Trauma (ASSET) is a course by American Surgical Association for surgeons whose profession requires excellent skill in the field of treating major blood vessel trauma. The course was introduced in Estonia in January 2018 on Professor Talving’s initiative and in cooperation with the Institute of Clinical Medicine at the University of Tartu, Estonian National Defence College and American Surgical Association.
