On the Independence Day of the Republic of Estonia, 24 February, a year will pass since the Russian Federation invaded the independent Ukrainian state. To commemorate the victims of the war, the university's Ukrainian community organises two peaceful events this Friday and Saturday, to which all university members are invited.
On Friday, 24 February, from 17‒19, candles will be lit in honour of the war victims on the square next to the Von Bock House (Ülikooli 16, opposite Werner Cafe).
On Saturday, 25 February, from 12‒13:30, there will be a joint walk through Tartu city centre. Participants gather on the Town Hall Square. From there, we will walk across the Arch Bridge to stop at the Delta building for singing and speeches. Then the walk takes us across the Freedom Bridge and along Rüütli street to the front of the university's main building, where representatives of MTÜ Ukraina Maja serve tea.
The commemoration events are organised by Ukrainian members of the University of Tartu and the MTÜ Ukraina Maja (NGO Ukrainian House). More information about the events is available on Facebook.
