You are welcome to the guest seminar by Dr Līga Zvejniece (Dr. med, PhD, leading researcher, Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Pharmacology, Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis, Riga, Latvia).

Title: Sigma-1 receptor: the intracellular target of neurodegenerative drugs

Time: on September 28th at 11:00-12:00
Location: Biomedicum, Ravila 19-1038

Dr. Līga Zvejniece's research focuses on elucidating the molecular mechanism of action and effectiveness of new pharmacological compounds. First of all, her work is related to the investigation of the effects of positive allosteric modulators of the sigma-1 receptor and the mechanisms of the development of complications of traumatic brain injury. Līga Zvejniece has received several awards for her research activities, including in 2009 she received the prestigious L`ORÉAL Latvian scholarship "Women in Science". Līga Zvejniece is the co-author of one of the best scientific achievements in Latvia named by the Latvian Academy of Sciences in 2017: "A new compound E1R has been developed to improve memory processes and treat epilepsy". November 25, 2021 she was elected a full member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences.

Dr Līga Zvejniece is the oponent of Aleksandr Bregin, who will defend his PhD on September 28th at 15:00 in Biomedicum (Ravila 19, room 1038) titled „Alterations of emotional behaviour induced by the genetic invalidation of the limbic system associated membrane protein (Lsamp) – potential implications for neuropsychiatric disorders“.

Tartu Ülikooli bio- ja siirdemeditsiini instituudi inimese geneetika õppetooli uuring koostöös Tartu Ülikooli Kliinikumi meestekliinikuga näitas, et üllatavalt suurel osal viljatutest meestest on lapsena diagnoositud munandi laskumishäire. Õigeaegne sekkumine aitab tulevikus lahendada viljatusprobleeme ja ennetada haruldaste kasvajate riski.

Poisslaste munandite väärarengu varjus võib peituda hoopis tõsisem geneetiline arenguhäire
